Borehole Cleaning & Remedial Work
Extensive remedial works carried to existing boreholes, including repairs, re-lining of boreholes, to cleaning works.
Remedial works are usually carried out in order to either prolong the life span of the source, bring a source back into production, increase productivity of the borehole, or improve water quality, or all of the above.
Various methods of remediation can be performed on existing boreholes, with each borehole being examined and a remediation proposal put forward. Proposals are usually put forward after considering many factors, but some of the main factors which are considered would be as follows:-
- Location of the existing borehole
- Age of the existing borehole and when last used
- Diameter and depth
- Condition of existing lining tubes
- Any decline in borehole yield
- Increase in water requirements from end user
- Any changes in water quality
- Any obstructions in the borehole - either breached, or foreign objects dropped into borehole
We have extensive equipment to enable ourselves to carry out remediation works to boreholes:-
- Boreholes located inside buildings or in difficult locations
- Any diameter of borehole, including shafts and wells
- Re-lining works to existing boreholes using steel lining tubes to BS879 - slotted or plain
- Removal of obstructions and recovery of foreign objects from boreholes.
Our fabrication facility will fabricate specialists recovery tools in line with removal of foreign objects.
Equipment can be set up over existing boreholes and cleaning carried out with drilling rigs both electrically driven and engine driven.
Air lifting equipment is also used, with air lift capacities of upto 10" diameter giving flows of upto 600m3/hour, using our own compressors.
A patented cleaning method for water supply boreholes has being researched with highly successful trials carried out to many boreholes. Research is continuing in conjunction with Newcastle University.
This process allows cleaning to be undertaken without leaving highly toxic chemical waste upon completion, making it an extremely environmentally friendly but extremely successful and effective method of cleaning.
The video caption available on this page illustrates the 'before treatment' and 'after treatment' using this patented method of cleaning, which you will agree, the visual results of which are amazing.
The picture on this page includes remedial works underway of a 36" diameter borehole located inside building, so our purpose built equipment is erected through the roof opening and the borehole was wire brushed, cleaned using our patented method, and the head works modified. Some old dip tubes were removed from a depth of 300m, and a borehole pump which had been dropped into the borehole some years prior.
The other picture on this page includes the wire brush and re-lining of an existing borehole for a water company in an attempt to improve water quality. This work was carried out using a drilling rig erected over the borehole located outside. The existing lining tubes had failed, and this was allowing surface water into the borehole making the borehole in that condition, useless. The borehole was put back into production following these works. Items recovered from the borehole included dip tubes, general fittings and nuts and bolts.
